A few days ago, I received a message on twitter from Bayo (not his real name). He had read about my innovation in infant health and the invention of the Crib A’glow Solar Phototherapy Units by Tiny Hearts and reached out to me.

His message- “Hi Virtue, I came across your work on https://fb.watch/4GNcK_Anbb/ Allow me request your attention on a medical consumable design we are working on, kindly share your email…”

His email came shortly after that and I read through. Bayo also shared a picture of what the proposed product would look like and a lot more details. It was quite an interesting read especially because it was a product related to covid-19.

The new global trend is that international organizations are looking to support solutions and innovations surrounding COVID-19 and the life after it and this has affected entrepreneurs and business men/women who have either tilted towards those solutions, commenced production of new products or changed their mode of operations entirely to suit the lifestyle that the virus has forced on humanity. Huge fashion organizations have switched to face masks production instead of clothes and more. Electronic/engineering firms have switched to production of ventilators and other technical solutions surrounding this pandemic. Even in Nigeria, technical experts in different fields have come up with prototypes of locally made ventilators and other proposed solutions to treat or curb the spread of the virus.

Techies have plugged in too, websites, mobile apps and other tech solutions to trace or collect data related to covid19…everyone in the entrepreneurial space is on their feet, reinventing & strategizing!

WHY?

Whether the reason you are crafting and proposing a solution to this global problem is money or for humanity reasons, paying attention to details of the new lifestyle, trends and behavioral insights as regards innovation and business is essential.

Here’s a summary of the feedback I gave Bayo and I hope it helps.

APPLYING BEHAVIORAL INSIGHTS TO INNOVATION.

1. MAKE IT EASY TO USE — Every business needs humans. Simplify your message, simplify your solution while considering their norms, lifestyle, present bias and psychological effect of your business on them.

2. MAKE IT ATTRACTIVE- Offer credible information to support other businesses, offer discounts, incentives, bonuses & free vouchers.

3. MAKE IT SOCIAL — Leverage the power of your personal and professional network.

4. MAKE IT TIMELY- The ability to foresee situations and opportunities will help you avoid random decision making in business and innovation. Timely decision making is key.

Bayo has made a lot of changes in his new innovation for a covid19 solution and I’m anticipating a good response from his proposed funders, investors, beneficiaries and customers.

Its all coming out better!

Behavioral insights and Innovation is a lot deeper than this, I’d share more details in the coming weeks.
